AOTO Expands Rail Transit LED Footprint Across China and Europe

AOTO has expanded its rail transit portfolio with new LED installations across metro and transport networks in China, the UK and Sweden. The latest projects range from a nearly 1,000-square-meter rollout across 12 Shanghai Metro stations to a trackside installation at Hötorget Station in Stockholm.

The environments vary considerably. Some displays sit in busy concourses and interchange corridors, where space is tight and passenger contact is constant. Others are built into large architectural media positions or installed beside active rail lines, where moisture, dust, vibration, electromagnetic compatibility and air pressure become part of the engineering brief.

That has led AOTO to use different display platforms across the projects rather than adapting one product to every station.

12 Stations, Nearly 1,000 m² in Shanghai

The largest of the recent deployments is in Shanghai, covering 12 Metro stations including Caoyang Road, Jiangwan Stadium, Shanghai Indoor Stadium and Xujiahui.

Nearly 1,000 m² of AOTO CV-MINI Series LED has been installed across the network. With passenger traffic, humidity and long operating hours in mind, the displays use GOB packaging for added surface protection. The cabinets are only 38 mm deep, with front access that reduces the space needed for installation and servicing.

In Beijing, the challenge was different.

At Xidan Station, an interchange between Metro Lines 1 and 4, 329 CVCS Series P1.2 cabinets run along the wall of the interchange corridor. Rather than a single media position, the installation creates a continuous digital surface that stays in view as passengers move through the station. Flip-chip COB and a low-magnetic design were used for the project.

AOTO has taken the same site-specific approach in Tianjin and Suzhou. At the north exit of Tianjin Railway Station, 240 CV-MINI displays use a 1.5 mm pixel pitch, Mini 4-in-1 technology and redundant receiving cards and power supplies. Leqiao and Times Square stations in Suzhou use the CVCS Series with flip-chip COB packaging for added surface protection and heat dissipation.

From Metro Architecture in London to Trackside LED in Stockholm

AOTO’s rail transit work now extends into two major European transport networks.

In London, AOTO worked with Global, one of the UK’s leading outdoor media companies, to deploy its MXC Series across key Elizabeth line stations including Bond Street, Tottenham Court Road and Farringdon. The displays are integrated into concourses, passageways and escalator areas, turning some of the network’s busiest passenger routes into large-format digital media spaces.

At Bond Street, the Mega Landmark Wall is integrated directly into the station architecture, creating a prominent digital canvas along the passenger route. MXC supports 24-bit color processing and pixel-level brightness and chromaticity calibration, helping maintain consistency across large-format display surfaces.

Stockholm presented a different brief altogether.

Working with JCDecaux, AOTO deployed its new RN Series at Hötorget Station, with the display installed on the trackside platform wall. Unlike a concourse display, equipment in this position has to deal with repeated vibration and pressure from passing trains, as well as moisture, dust and metallic particles common to the rail environment.

RN was developed specifically for these conditions. The series combines MIP technology with IP65 protection, EMC Class B performance and low surface magnetism. A high-strength magnetic locking system and safety cable provide additional protection against vibration and wind pressure, while the 68 mm cabinet supports front maintenance. A 7680 Hz refresh rate keeps moving content clear as trains and passengers pass the display.

For trackside applications, these are not secondary specifications. They determine how the display coexists with rail infrastructure and how easily it can be maintained within a limited service window.

Different Products for Different Parts of the Station

AOTO’s broader rail transit portfolio follows the same logic seen in these projects. CV, CB and ADS products cover station halls and corridors; flexible LED addresses curved and architectural installations; RN and ExF are designed for more demanding trackside environments. Packaging technologies including COB, GOB, MINI LED and MIP are selected according to where the display will operate.

The latest installations put that portfolio to work at very different scales: 12 stations and nearly 1,000 m² in Shanghai, a continuous interchange display in Beijing, large-format digital media on London’s Elizabeth line, and trackside LED in Stockholm.

For AOTO, the common approach is straightforward: start with the station environment, then build the display around it.
