AOTO Supports China’s Leading University Virtual Production Competition with AI and XR Technologies

AOTO played a key role in the 2026 Virtual Production Contest (VPC), supporting the competition from hands-on training and technical workshops to judging, industry discussions and the awards ceremony.

Held on July 18–19 at the Shanghai Film Academy of Shanghai University, the finals brought together students, educators and industry professionals from across China. As the Official Technical Support Partner, AOTO contributed throughout the event, demonstrating how AI and XR technologies can support virtual production education while strengthening collaboration between universities and industry.

Recognized this year as a dedicated track of the China Collegiate Design Competition & Exhibition under Milan Design Week, VPC has become one of China’s leading university competitions for virtual production. The 2026 edition attracted nearly 1,500 students and faculty members from 94 universities and 112 academic departments, with 350 projects submitted and 46 finalist teams selected for the national finals.

To reflect the rapid adoption of AI across the creative industries, the competition also required every participating team to incorporate AI into its production workflow, encouraging students to explore new approaches to storytelling and virtual production.

Before the finals, AOTO hosted practical workshops at its Shenzhen headquarters, where students gained hands-on experience with professional virtual production workflows, including 4KK virtual production, XR content creation, and real-world production environments. The company also participated in regional education forums and organized visits to university virtual production laboratories, giving students direct exposure to professional production technologies.

Wu Wei, Vice Chairman and Vice President of AOTO, served on the judging panel, joining industry and academic experts in evaluating the finalist projects.

At the Virtual Production Roundtable Forum, Zhao Peng, Director of Domestic Sales at AOTO, joined university representatives and industry leaders to discuss how AI is reshaping content production, virtual production education and industry-academia collaboration. The discussion highlighted the growing need for graduates who combine creative thinking with technical expertise and practical AI skills.

At the awards ceremony, AOTO presented the AOTO Special Recommendation – Best Virtual Production Project Award, recognizing outstanding work in virtual production, XR storytelling, virtual-real integration and innovative applications of AI. The award reflects AOTO’s ongoing support for young creators exploring the intersection of emerging technologies and visual storytelling.

As a leading provider of intelligent visual solutions, AOTO has delivered more than 130 professional LED virtual production studios worldwide and built long-term partnerships with more than 20 universities. Through initiatives such as VPC, AOTO is bringing professional virtual production technologies into the classroom, giving students hands-on experience with the tools and workflows used across today’s virtual production industry.
