AOTO Powers New 5,000 sqm Virtual Production Facility at Chengdu Film City VP Studio, China

Chengdu, China – Chengdu Film City VP Studio (CDFC VP Studio) has officially opened a new 5,000 sqm virtual production facility designed to support film, television, commercial and digital content production.

At the heart of the facility is an 820 sqm LED volume built with 3,240 AOTO RM2.3S LED panels, including a 60 m × 12 m curved LED wall and a 100 sqm movable LED ceiling. Together, they create a 360-degree immersive visual environment while providing a 180-degree shooting angle and up to 19.1 meters of usable depth for in-camera VFX workflows.

The project marks another major virtual production collaboration between Tencent and AOTO, following the 3,000 sqm Tencent CDD Virtual Studio in Shenzhen, one of the most advanced virtual production facilities in South China.

Designed as a fully integrated virtual production environment, CDFC VP Studio combines LED volumes, motion capture, real-time rendering and camera tracking technologies within a unified workflow. A 1,100 sqm automated rotating stage further enhances production flexibility, enabling rapid set changes, efficient scene transitions and large-scale production setups.

Unlike traditional green-screen workflows, virtual production enables filmmakers to visualize final scenes in real time. Directors, cinematographers and performers can work directly within photoreal virtual environments, allowing creative decisions to be made on set while reducing the need for extensive post-production compositing.

Powered by AOTO’s RM2.3S series, the LED volume delivers high brightness, high refresh rates and exceptional image uniformity for demanding virtual production applications. Combined with AOTO’s proprietary cooling technology, the system maintains stable operating temperatures during extended shooting schedules, ensuring consistent image performance and reliable operation throughout production.

The studio’s technology stack also incorporates 48 Brompton Tessera SX40 LED processors and 96 Tessera XD data distribution units, providing the color accuracy, synchronization and reliability required for professional virtual production workflows.

Compared with traditional production methods, CDFC VP Studio’s virtual production workflow can reduce overall production costs by more than 30% while shortening shooting schedules by 40–50%, significantly improving production efficiency for film, television and digital content creators.
