Chengdu, China – Chengdu Film City VP Studio (CDFC VP Studio) has officially opened a new 5,000 sqm virtual production facility designed to support film, television, commercial and digital content production.

At the heart of the facility is an 820 sqm LED volume built with 3,240 AOTO RM2.3S LED panels, including a 60 m × 12 m curved LED wall and a 100 sqm movable LED ceiling. Together, they create a 360-degree immersive visual environment while providing a 180-degree shooting angle and up to 19.1 meters of usable depth for in-camera VFX workflows.

The project marks another major virtual production collaboration between Tencent and AOTO, following the 3,000 sqm Tencent CDD Virtual Studio in Shenzhen, one of the most advanced virtual production facilities in South China.

Designed as a fully integrated virtual production environment, CDFC VP Studio combines LED volumes, motion capture, real-time rendering and camera tracking technologies within a unified workflow. A 1,100 sqm automated rotating stage further enhances production flexibility, enabling rapid set changes, efficient scene transitions and large-scale production setups.

Unlike traditional green-screen workflows, virtual production enables filmmakers to visualize final scenes in real time. Directors, cinematographers and performers can work directly within photoreal virtual environments, allowing creative decisions to be made on set while reducing the need for extensive post-production compositing.

Powered by AOTO’s RM2.3S series, the LED volume delivers high brightness, high refresh rates and exceptional image uniformity for demanding virtual production applications. Combined with AOTO’s proprietary cooling technology, the system maintains stable operating temperatures during extended shooting schedules, ensuring consistent image performance and reliable operation throughout production.

The studio’s technology stack also incorporates 48 Brompton Tessera SX40 LED processors and 96 Tessera XD data distribution units, providing the color accuracy, synchronization and reliability required for professional virtual production workflows.

Compared with traditional production methods, CDFC VP Studio’s virtual production workflow can reduce overall production costs by more than 30% while shortening shooting schedules by 40–50%, significantly improving production efficiency for film, television and digital content creators.

AOTO has now delivered more than 130 professional LED virtual production stages worldwide. Its virtual production solutions have been deployed by leading organizations including NVIDIA, Meta, AWS, Microsoft, Google, Tencent, China Film Group and Blizzard Entertainment, supporting productions across film, broadcast, esports and digital content creation.

ASEAN Club Championship Shopee Cup

Often compared to the UEFA Champions League in terms of its regional significance, the Shopee Cup brings together leading clubs from across ASEAN and continues to expand its reach throughout Southeast Asia.

Since the tournament’s return in 2024, AOTO has supported 91 matches across the competition, including 75 matches during the 2024/25 and 2025/26 seasons and 16 matches completed in the first half of 2026. Serving as the tournament’s Official Visual Technology Partner and Official Operations Partner, AOTO has provided SP Series sports LED displays and digital operations technologies across multiple countries, venues and broadcast markets.

Operating a regional football competition presents challenges that extend beyond the action on the pitch. Different broadcast markets require different sponsorship content, while organizers must coordinate content, advertising and venue operations across multiple stadiums and stakeholders.

To support these requirements, AOTO deployed its SP Series sports LED displays alongside Virtual Broadcasting Technology and the ASOP Operations Platform. The solution enables region-specific advertising content to be delivered to different broadcast audiences from the same match, helping organizers maximize sponsorship value across multiple markets. At the same time, the ASOP platform supports content scheduling, advertising management and venue coordination, streamlining operational workflows throughout the tournament.

The project reflects the growing role of digital infrastructure in modern sports event delivery. As competitions expand across multiple venues and markets, technologies that support content management, broadcast workflows and commercial operations are becoming increasingly important alongside the live fan experience.

With the draw for the 2026/27 season now complete, the next chapter of the competition will begin later this year. AOTO will continue supporting the tournament with sports display and digital operations solutions designed to enhance both the matchday experience and the operations behind it.

What makes this installation stand out is that it isn’t just a big LED wall or an isolated XR rig. AOTO engineered it as a full virtual production ecosystem — XR production, VP workflows, motion capture, robotic camera systems, camera tracking, real-time rendering and virtual lighting, all feeding into one unified pipeline.

The facility has two studios, built for different production scenarios.

The XR studio runs on AOTO RM2.3 LED walls,IF2.6V4X LED floor system and a complete Disguise workflow. It can flip between XR and VP modes, which opens up virtual broadcast, live production, previs and immersive content work.

The VP studio is built around RM1.5 LED walls, M3.7H ceiling and RM1.5C curved configurations. A multi-render-node architecture handles complex camera moves and in-camera VFX with high image fidelity and real-time scene sync.

In practice, that means actors can walk through virtual cityscapes or fully digital sets without ever leaving the studio floor, while camera movement, rendered content and the LED walls stay locked in real time.

The engineering side was no small feat. The team had to integrate multiple rendering engines, tracking systems and display processors, then solve multi-device sync and multi-render-node image stitching — plus pixel-level LED mapping calibration done with precision surveying instruments.

AOTO also built an Art-Net-based virtual lighting system that ties physical fixtures to the virtual environment. Change the virtual sunlight, weather or time of day, and the lights on set respond automatically, which makes blending physical talent into digital backgrounds feel a lot more natural.

Before handing the facility over, AOTO ran a series of technical training sessions and hands-on workshops with HKBU faculty and students, giving them direct experience in real virtual production pipelines.

“Our students are now working with the same tools and workflows they’ll encounter in the industry,” said a professor at HKBU’s School of Creative Arts. “That changes everything about how we teach.”

The project fits a wider trend across film and media schools, which are moving away from equipment-focused teaching toward production environments that actually mirror professional VP workflows.

With over 120 medium- and large-scale LED studios delivered worldwide and partnerships with more than 20 universities, AOTO is clearly positioning itself beyond LED display manufacturing and into full XR/VP system integration. The HKBU project is a showcase of where that’s headed.

Across the industry, content creation is no longer defined by format. Broadcast, film, live streaming, and immersive media are converging into a more fluid, real-time workflow. What used to be separate tools are now expected to work as one system. In this shift, LED is no longer just something you look at — it’s becoming something you create with.

This shift was made tangible across our booth.

MetaBox Studio drew strong interest as a compact solution designed for professional live streaming and content production. Rather than replicating a traditional studio, it brings together LED display, lighting, camera systems, AV control, and virtual production workflows into a coordinated system. Powered by our Coruscant rendering server and the VORMIR AI platform, it enables real-time scene changes, AI-assisted production, and a simplified workflow — making high-quality production possible without heavy infrastructure or large crews.

In the rental zone, we presented a range of LED configurations including curved and right-angle setups. These are not just structural variations — they redefine how space can be used on stage and on camera. LED becomes responsive to movement, framing, and timing, shifting from a passive backdrop to an active visual layer within the content itself.

We also showcased our digital cinema solutions, focused on image precision, contrast performance, and immersive viewing environments. Here, LED is not just about brightness or scale, but about delivering consistent, controlled visuals that meet the expectations of premium cinema.

Beyond the technology, NAB also became a space for deeper conversations. Throughout the show, we hosted a series of technical sessions exploring virtual production workflows, hybrid production models, and the evolving demands of content creation.

Speakers included A.J. Wedding, Founder and CEO of Orbital Studios; Brian Nitzkin, Vice President of Orbital Studios; Gary Marshall; Nathan Bazley; Noah Kadner; Monica Reina, along with other industry professionals. Together, they shared practical perspectives from real-world productions — from integrating virtual production into existing pipelines to rethinking how teams collaborate across physical and digital environments.

What became clear across both the booth and these discussions is a broader shift in how production is approached. The competition has quickly become one of the most representative student events in China’s virtual production landscape. It is co-organized by the Milan Design Week Committee and the VPC Organizing Committee, with support from leading institutions including the Shanghai Film Academy, Jilin University of the Arts, Guangzhou Academy of Fine Arts, and Xi’an University of Posts and Telecommunications. Since its launch in 2023, the competition has grown from 28 participating teams to 411 in 2025, establishing itself as a key platform where emerging talent engages with the production tools shaping the industry.

What sets this year apart is a stronger focus on access. Virtual production can still feel like a black box for students entering the field. Rather than simply supplying equipment, AOTO opened up its working environments to show how these systems operate in practice.

On March 20, AOTO hosted the Shenzhen leg of the competition at its headquarters, turning its studio into a hands-on training environment. Students and faculty explored MetaBox 4KK Virtual Production setups, XR production workflows, and the growing role of AI in on-set processes.

A few days later, on March 24, AOTO participated in the Central China regional launch at Wuhan Institute of Engineering Science and Technology. Instead of a traditional keynote, the session focused on discussion—bringing together academics and industry professionals to examine how AI and XR are being applied in real-world production today.

Following the event, AOTO organized a visit to the Virtual Production Lab at Hubei University of Technology, giving students the opportunity to experience the workflow firsthand.

China has established a strong competitive edge in LED display and virtual production hardware, with its technical capabilities now recognized globally. The industry is accelerating its shift—from competing on technology alone to building out a full ecosystem. For AOTO, supporting the VPC is part of a broader effort to help drive that transition.

We have established partnerships with more than 20 universities in China and internationally, including the Beijing Film Academy, Norwich University of the Arts (UK), and Hong Kong Baptist University. These collaborations reflect a shared challenge: students need more than access to equipment—they need to understand how creative intent and technical execution come together on set.

Helping students enter the industry with practical, hands-on experience is where AOTO sees its greatest impact—and where efforts like the VPC can make a lasting difference.

As a leading commercial network in Ireland, Virgin Media Television reaches approximately 2.7 million viewers each week. Among audiences aged 15–44, its commercial impact surpasses that of national broadcaster RTÉ by 18%. The network also holds long-term rights to premium sports properties including the UEFA Champions League and Europa League—raising the bar significantly for studio performance. In this context, display systems are expected to meet the same standards as high-end live sports production.

That standard ultimately comes down to what the industry values most: on-camera reliability. A display that looks impressive on a showroom floor must still hold up under broadcast conditions—through the lens of a camera and across hours of continuous live transmission. Consistency, color accuracy, and stability are not optional; they are essential.

AOTO’s CV-MINI series was designed with exactly these demands in mind. Built for high-end broadcast environments, it delivers stable, true-to-life visuals even under prolonged, high-intensity use.

The performance of the CV-MINI series is underpinned by several core technologies. AOTO’s proprietary Mini 4-in-1 architecture, combined with a nano-level surface coating, enables deeper blacks and higher contrast for greater visual depth. Smaller LED chips contribute to improved stability and refined optical performance, supporting continuous, high-demand operation. With a 110% NTSC color gamut, the system ensures precise color reproduction, allowing every frame captured on camera to appear natural and true. Exceptional black uniformity further allows the display to blend seamlessly into darker studio environments without visual distraction.

The Virgin Media Television project adds to AOTO’s growing portfolio of more than 100 broadcast studio installations worldwide. From Europe and the Middle East to North America and Asia, AOTO solutions are used by leading news organizations including Al Jazeera, BBC, ITV, Sky Deutschland, CNN, and others.

This global footprint reflects more than technical capability—it underscores AOTO’s role in shaping visual standards for modern broadcast environments. Designed for high-end film and TV production, the studio reflects a clear shift toward more scalable, production-ready virtual workflows—moving beyond experimentation into everyday use.

At the center of the studio is our RM1.9 LED display system, forming a large-scale LED volume with a 60-meter-wide, 10-meter-high curved main wall, supported by four movable extension panels (7m × 4.5m each). The setup is built to match the demands of real-world production, giving crews the flexibility to move quickly while maintaining consistent on-camera results.

On the processing side, the system runs on Brompton Technology’s Tessera platform, with 30 Tessera SX40 4K processors and 60 Tessera XD 10G data distribution units. This combination ensures clean on-camera performance, stable output under challenging shooting conditions, and accurate color reproduction across the entire volume.

From a production standpoint, the studio is designed to handle fast-paced, complex shoots. High refresh rates and low latency support smooth capture of motion-heavy scenes, while high contrast and color accuracy help minimize reflections and color inconsistencies. Scenes can be switched quickly, and the system integrates seamlessly with mainstream real-time rendering workflows.

In practical terms, this means productions—especially those involving complex environments like sci-fi or fantasy—can be executed far more efficiently. Compared to traditional approaches, production costs can be reduced by up to 90%, with overall efficiency gains exceeding 55%.

Beyond the LED volume, the studio integrates technologies such as real-time digital human systems, AI-based image segmentation, and SMPTE ST 2110, helping standardize workflows and making virtual production a more repeatable, reliable tool for content creation.

For us, this project is another step in seeing how LED display technology is becoming core infrastructure for modern filmmaking. As more studios move toward industrialized production models, the focus is no longer just on what’s possible—but on what’s practical, repeatable, and scalable.

This is no longer a future direction—it’s already taking shape, and we’re part of that shift.

WUHAN, China — At South-Central Minzu University, students in the School of Journalism and Communication are stepping beyond traditional broadcast training into a real-time virtual production environment. A newly launched XR studio combines a curved LED wall with a synchronized LED floor, enabling seamless transitions between virtual newsrooms, urban environments, cultural settings, and fully digital scenes.

The purpose-built facility is designed to support the full content production workflow—from concept development and virtual scene creation to real-time filming—within a single controlled space. By consolidating these processes, the studio provides students with a more direct and practical understanding of modern media production.

At the core of the installation is AOTO’s U Series LED wall, engineered for XR applications and capable of forming seamless curved configurations. Its low reflectivity and high refresh rate ensure stable on-camera performance, minimizing artifacts such as moiré and flicker during filming.

The setup is complemented by the IFV4X LED floor, which enhances spatial realism by maintaining consistent perspective and natural light interaction between physical subjects and digital environments. Built with protective GOB technology, the system is designed to withstand the demands of frequent academic use.

A key advantage of the studio lies in its real-time, “what-you-see-is-what-you-get” workflow. Unlike traditional production methods that rely heavily on post-production, this environment allows students to visualize and adjust scenes instantly, improving both efficiency and creative decision-making.

Beyond technical training, the studio also supports applications in virtual broadcasting, digital storytelling, and immersive content creation. As a university with a strong focus on ethnic studies, South-Central Minzu University is expected to leverage this platform to explore new approaches to cultural storytelling through XR technologies.

The project further strengthens AOTO’s presence in the education sector. The company has powered over 100 XR/VP studios worldwide, including more than 20 university installations across China, the US, and Europe, with projects at institutions such as Beijing Film Academy, Norwich University of the Arts, and DeSales University.

Across the exhibition, AOTO demonstrated how LED display technologies are evolving beyond standalone screens into integrated visual systems that combine hardware, AI tools, and operational platforms for real-world applications.

Our presence at ISLE was also recognized by the industry with four major awards, highlighting its growing influence in virtual production and intelligent visual communication.

Award-Winning Innovation

One of the most talked-about demonstrations at the booth was MetaBox Studio — an ultra-compact virtual production system that makes professional livestreaming simple.

The concept is intentionally simple: one operator, one system, and one LED background can deliver a professional virtual broadcast.

Powered by the Vormir AI asset library and the Coruscant rendering server, users can describe a scene to the AI assistant—from a cyberpunk street market to a seaside café—and the system generates a complete virtual environment. Within about 15 minutes, the studio can move from setup to live streaming.

By dramatically lowering the technical barriers to XR production, MetaBox Studio makes virtual production accessible to e-commerce teams, brand marketers, creators, and smaller studios.

The system received ISLE’s Innovation Gold Award — the exhibition’s highest innovation honor and the only project at the show to receive this distinction.

AOTO was further recognized with:

Immersive Retail: The Future Store Concept

Beyond content production, AOTO demonstrated how LED technology can transform physical retail environments through its Future Store immersive concept.

By wrapping entire interiors with LED displays, the system creates a fully branded spatial experience where customers enter an environment rather than simply view a product.

The concept is designed for cafés, lifestyle stores, flagship retail spaces, and pop-up activations. It has already been implemented internationally, including Future Store on London’s Oxford Street, as well as projects at Outernet London and Meta Lab, the global smart-glasses pop-up created for the Meta × Ray-Ban collaboration.

Film-Grade LED Technologies

In the virtual production zone, AOTO showcased several technologies developed specifically for film and broadcast environments.

RGBW Technology — SW(RGBW) Series introduces a dedicated white sub-pixel alongside traditional RGB LEDs, allowing brightness and color to be controlled independently. The result is more natural skin tones and improved highlight detail on camera. The technology is currently used at the virtual production studio of Norwich University of the Arts in the UK.

Wide Viewing Angle Technology (RM1.9 Series) ensures consistent brightness and color even when viewed from extreme angles—an important capability for virtual production stages where cameras move constantly. This technology has been deployed in Toei’s virtual production studio in Japan.

These systems are powered by AOTO’s X4 controller, enabling precise synchronization and stable real-time rendering for complex production environments.

Commercial Display Innovation

In the commercial display segment, AOTO presented the ADS ultra-thin dual-sided advertising display series alongside the TxV2 Series transparent LED display.

With a thickness of just 38 mm, ADS supports independent content playback on both sides while improving space efficiency and reducing energy consumption.

The TxV2 Series transparent displays provide a balance between visual impact and architectural openness, making them suitable for storefront windows, shopping centers, and retail environments.

AI + Visual in Practice

From AI-powered livestreaming systems to immersive retail spaces and virtual production technologies, AOTO’s presence at ISLE 2026 demonstrated how AI + Visual systems are being applied across media, retail, and commercial environments.
